Why Teachers Should Not Beat Students: A Critical Perspective

Teachers are the most important features in the molding of the next generation. They have to wake up early, plan lessons, and work hard to make their students understand things, like why mitochondria are called the powerhouse of the cell. They command a great deal of respect. But let’s talk about today’s most imperative issue-why teachers should never, ever, beyond any shadow of a doubt, lay a hand on the students for punishment. Spoiler: not only is it against the law.

Reason #1: It is the Progressive Era, not Medieval Times.

Physical punishment used to be promoted as a “character-building” experience. The same generation called this practice beneficial also believed that using leeches was a medical treatment and taking baths was optional. Times are different, and let’s just face the music. We’re living in a progressive technological era of evolving educational philosophies. Resorting to physical punishment today is as out of place as trying to fix a WiFi issue by smacking the router; it’s outdated, ineffective, and frankly, it shows an inability to move with the times onto better ways of doing things.

Reason #2: Emotional Trauma Is Not a Learning Tool
